Mayors of Slovakia ensured the preparation and coordination of a working meeting between ZMOS and the Mayors' Club were provided, resulting in the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation. The Memorandum was signed under our coordination and created a framework for long-term, practically oriented cooperation between local governments in Slovakia and Ukraine.

The signed memorandum identifies several areas in which Slovak and Ukrainian local governments have room for real cooperation:

  • municipal diplomacy and partner cities (twinning) – systematic linking of towns and municipalities, exchange visits and joint activities,

  • expert exchange and capacity building – seminars, trainings, conferences and thematic working meetings for sharing good practices,

  • reconstruction and development of towns and municipalities – modernization of infrastructure, increasing resilience and improving public services,

  • thematic projects for the benefit of residents – culture, education, youth, digitalization and smart solutions, social inclusion, sports and community life,

  • preparation of joint projects and consortia – including the use of EU programmes and other financial instruments and grant schemes.

The signing of the memorandum represents a concrete step towards strengthening the international dimension of municipal cooperation and creates a stable foundation for long-term partnerships based on trust, practical results and shared values. Linking local governments will not only enable the exchange of experience and proven solutions, but also the joint preparation of projects that will contribute to the modernization of towns and municipalities and to improving the quality of life of their residents.

The initiative also strengthens the position of Mayors of Slovakia as an active partner in the development of international municipal cooperation and confirms the readiness of Slovak local governments to contribute to the stability, reconstruction and sustainable development of the region through concrete, practically oriented steps.
